Camp Life: Beautiful Porter Lake
Photo Contest Winner (see below): This photo of Porter Lake was sent by Patti Knapp Nestled in Maine’s western foothills, beautiful Porter Lake in the towns of New Vineyard and Strong is surrounded by Mount Blue, Mount Abram, and Saddleback. The 527 acre lake has a maximum depth of 86 feet and excellent water quality, with average Secchi disk readings above 8 meters. Boaters can access two public campsites on an island and may spot a visiting bald eagle or the 9 loons that return to the lake each year. Each summer, on the first Saturday of August, the Porter Lake Association hosts a Bean-Hole Supper. Proceeds from the event are the associations’ main revenue source enabling them to carry on programs such as Courtesy Boat Inspections to protect the lake. For information about Porter Lake and the supper, e-mail the Porter Lake Association. Click here for more information about Maine COLA's photo contest and how to enter. |
