Do you recall how the dazzle of moonlight dances right at you across the water at night, or how you feel when the irresistible invitation that is dawn sounds out from a quiet lake? Jerry Monkman does, and captures these evocative moments with surreal clarity in his work.

If you’re the kind of person who gets surprised by beauty when the inky silhouettes of pines stand powerful and dark against an incandescent sky, you cannot afford to miss Jerry’s Keynote Talk, Every Picture Tells a Story at this year’s Maine Lakes Conference on June 20.

Jerry and his wife, Marcy, specialize in photographing New England’s most beautiful wild places and using their images to help conserve and protect this heritage. Their pictures tell the story all of us struggle to get across, the one that has to do with beauty, fragility, interdependence, and the importance of working together to preserve the so-delicate ecosystems on which earth’s life depends. So Jerry’s talk is not just a pretty picture show, though it is that; it’s also a lesson in how to get the message across in a way that makes a difference

And there is more. For the fortunate few who sign-up first, Jerry will give a free photography workshop during the morning breakout sessions at the Maine Lakes Conference.
