Two are Golden! Two Maine Lake Associations have had LakeSmart Awards presented to 15% of all lakefront property owners on their lakes, and so they have become the first LakeSmart Gold lakes. Their achievement will be saluted by the Department of Environmental Protection at this year’s MAINE LAKES CONFERENCE. Come see who they are and learn how they did it. Other LakeSmart news: You’ll Have a Hard Time Choosing! So much is packed in to this year’s ANNUAL MAINE LAKES CONFERENCE, that you will have a hard time choosing which of the many sessions to attend. Between the plenary sessions and lunch, at the Morning Breakout Sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the mysteries of loon behavior from a Vet who has spent many years with the Tufts University Loon Program, hear from two water quality experts about the statewide threat to lakes from newly proposed septic system standards, get an overview of what’s happening in Maine’s vast North Woods from Maine Audubon, hear what forestry and drinking water specialists are doing to protect our water resources from sprawl, or take a photography workshop from our Keynote Speaker. Our afternoon sessions have been extended to provide a rounded-out demonstration of three topics important to lake associations and alliances: Youth Education, Capacity Building, Lake Protection. Each of these three sessions includes very practical, hands-on activities, some of which will be held outside. We suggest informal attire suitable for whatever weather is expected on June 20th! So much information is being offered that we encourage lake associations and alliances to send more than one representative to this conference. To make this easier, we have arranged a price break for 2 or more attendees from the same organization.
